What’s Video Interviewing?
Why do you need video interviewing?
How video interviewing technology adds value to a recruitment software platform?
Immagine that your job is to hire people to work for a translation firm – or perhaps you work for a recruitment agency who specializes in translators.
So you can imagine that during the interviewing process, you have to set up an evaluation process that involves some kind of translation test – OK, Jesepe, you have 5 minutes to translate this paragraph for me, from Italian to English.
So you give Jesepe, a sheet of paper with a paragraph written in Italian on it, and also there is room enough on that page for Jesepe to write his English version of the paragraph.
After the interview, you or someone else in the business has to evaluate Jesepe’s ability to translate Italian – right?
OK so what do you think this person tasked with evaluating Jesepe needs in order to make an informed hiring decision for this Italian to English translator role?
Well, they need:
The evaluation test – the sheet of paper where Jesepe’s wrote his version of the paragraph in English.
Ok, but are we missing something here?
Well, I mean the technical skills here are very important, which is mostly summarized by the Italian to English translation skills… I get that, but how about his personality?
How about the cultural fit within the team who he’d be working with?
How about the personality, and therefore, is going to get along with our clients for example – are they going to like him – can you send him to meet with the clients?
Is he an extrovert enough to do a bit of selling/up-selling when meeting with the clients?
OK, here’s a question for you?
Could you, for example, have applicants complete the test by submitting their translated paragraph from a page on your website – or make this test as part of the application form for this job for example?
Would this save you having to bring Jesepe in and spend at least $500 of company’s time on the interview and everything else that’s behind setting up the interview and bringing 3 people on the interview and the interruption the interview cause to these 3 people?
Well, I don’t think so – just having the answer is not good enough, this would certainly qualify them but you still need to bring them in to evaluate them for the cultural fit, personality and other things too.
I’m not even going to mention that how do you even trust, they didn’t use Google to translate the paragraph and copy and paste it!
So now that I’ve set the stage… how about if Jesepe was given 1 take only to record their answer, and in that take, how about if you could restrict them to only 2 minutes to complete the translation.
So here’s how Video Interviewing can potentially save this translation firm/recruiter thousands of dollars if they hire let’s say, 30 translators in a year.
- Jesepe gets sent a link
- They click on the link
- They find themselves on the video interviewing page
- When they’re ready to start their interview, Jesepe clicks on the start button
- Then and only then the test paragraph in Italian is displayed on the screen – so this is the first time that Jesepe sees this paragraph and don’t forget, he’s being recorded – so his reaction and whether he’s typing and looking at something else is all clearly recorded.
- So now Jesepe has 2 minutes to record his translation.
- And once the 2 minutes lapse… then that’s it – he can’t do another take! 1 take only!
This is Video Interviewing!
Watching the Jesepe’s recording will give you a clear idea of:
- The translation abilities
- How quickly they can do it
- Their personality
- Their reaction
So here’s what happens, you would watch 30 people like Jesepe, and based on watching the videos, you would invite only 3 people for interviews and out of the 3 people, you would hire one person.
It’s very clear that such translation firm could save the money spent on up to 5 interviews per job – this is 5 X 30 = 150 interview = 150 X $500 = $75,000/year.
I know that this is not accurate – I mean I never worked for a translation firm or a translation recruiter but if anything these numbers are there to give you an idea about the rationale that you can really use to estimate if and how this could be saving you money within your recruitment process.
Video Interviewing from within the MyRecruitment+ platform
So at MyRecruitment+ we believe that video interviewing technology can add value to an applicant tracking system and so our vision is to integrate multiple Video Interviewing providers within our platform to give our clients the choice of choosing which one works for them.
So far we have integrated the Seek Video Screen that’s powered by SparkHire. Users of our platform can now set up the video interview questions, send them off to candidates, and; watch the video answers… all from within the platform.
So this is a comprehensive and seamless integration between our two technologies and I’m happy to announce that it takes 2 minutes to set up.
Our users can self-configure the link (integration) in 2 minutes… it’s as easy as copying a number from the Seek Video Screen account and pasting it into a text field in our platforms, and that’s it – our users can begin sending video interview requests to candidates and watching the answers.
Our plan is to integrate with a few more products in this space including Sonru, https://www.sonru.com/ and Flipbase, http://flipbase.com/
Thanks for reading and all the very best!
